In Review: January

In Review: January

I’m starting a new “In Review” series for 2020! Every month, I’ll recap the previous commissions, side projects, and hobby goings. Here’s the review for January!

January 2020

I was so excited for January! The first batch of 2020 commissions were claimed in less than five minutes, it looked like a great mix of projects, and I was ready to go.

And then my toddler got sick. And then I got sick. And then my husband got the flu. The REAL flu, not just a 48 hour tummy bug. It was a miserable week and a rough start to January’s commissions, but they did get done with time to spare!

I did a lot of tiny tooling in January, and a fair amount of elbow-icing. It was worth it, though! After the commissions wrapped, I had time to work on some extra projects like International Model Tack Month and future sales pieces!

International Model Tack Month

After co-founding and hosting National Model Tack Month with Hanna Bear in 2017, life forced me to step back from a leadership role. Life pushed Hanna back for 2020. Without a baby on the way or a heavy workload of remodeling projects I have been able to step up and organize this year’s event. I’m so excited - the name is being shifted to reflect the global participation, I have some fun projects in the works, and I can’t wait for April! Well, March really - that’s when we really start prepping!

February and Beyond

I’m ready to begin at least one February commission - a pleasure set for Eberl’s Lola resin - and even though it’s a SHORT month, I think it will be a good one! I need a week or so to figure out how things are going to go, then I’ll try to offer a couple of small commission opportunities - things like halters, bridles, a pair of boots, etc. Because January looked a bit uncertain, I suspended the program for that month and instead used the last few days to work on future sales pieces, which leads into conversation about (dun dun dun!) the next round of commissions!

The tentative plan for the next few months is to finish out the first quarter commissions, have a first come first serve sale in April, and then offer another batch of commissions (likely May-July, but I make no promises). A sale in April will free me up to handle any necessary IMTM business, and give me the freedom to work on something new and crazy that month! I already have a good start on sales stock - there will definitely be a dressage set, a Portuguese Working Equitation set, and a myriad of other small pieces. See below for a quick overview - some pieces are still in progress in photos.
